Oh cool, Kim is launching a substack
In this post I explain how it will be different from all the other substacks.
Hey folks
Thanks for signing up. This first post is just to let you know what the Conjunctions vibe is. The first proper edition is coming in June.
What you can expect from Conjunctions
Substack tells me I signed up to write a newsletter four years ago, but I’ve done nothing with it since:
1. Why I wanted to launch a newsletter
Everyone has a take on the trends that they’re spotting. That's super cool. I love that; it’s one of the ways I keep up to date with what's happening where. But, not many of these trend signal-type newsletters give you a lot of context or quantify their data. That’s where I come in. I use a combo of social listening, search listening, and various other types of digital analysis to ensure that my hypotheses are contextualised to the best of my ability.
2. Who is this for?
People who are very online, people who used to be very online but now find it increasingly exhausting (I see you!), advertising/media people, pop culture nerds, trends folks, and those who are not averse to having astrology used as a framework for understanding.
3. How often will I send these out?
Once a month. That’s all. There was too much content on the internet before the enshittification and AI-generated content began, and I don’t want to add to this.
4. What are you going to post about?
Each month, I’ll do a social listening deep (ish) dive into something that I think is interesting. The first one will be about how TV is ‘mid’ no, and why this is driving renewed interest in shows from the ‘Golden Age’. If you want to nerd out with me about Buffy, Gilmore Girls, and other shows aired on WB at the turn of the century (!), then you should probably sign up.
5. Is that it?
Pretty much.
Once monthly posts on interesting pop cultural things, quantified with data, and always with added context.
If this sounds like your kind of thing, put your email in the box and click subscribe.
If you’ve already signed up, then thanks, and see you soon!
Kim
